Nature & Nurture

Project aims:

To host an exhibition and event series around genetics

Summary of activity:

We displayed the Inside DNA exhiblets and Choose Your Character exhibition

Evaluation approach:

Numbers on the door; Post event evaluation

What went well:

1: Professionally produced science-centre exhibitions looked very attractive and interesting – had a good visual impact.

2: Exhibits were very interactive

3: Series of linked events was very successful

What was learned:

1: The exhibits were free to loan, but there was cost for delivery and installation, which we were unaware of until shortly before displaying the exhibitions. One of the delivery quotes in particular was outside of our budget, so we had to collect, install and breakdown the exhibition ourselves – this involved two trips to Newcastle and three full Luton vans.

2: We had only seen plans of the exhibitions. Once the exhibitions had arrived, we realised we couldn’t fit everything into the exhibition space, and therefore couldn’t display everything. Next time we would make sure we see the exhibitions installed elsewhere to get a better idea of size, and to anticipate problems with collection and transport.

3: A few technical problems with some of the computer-based exhibits.
